1.0 Introduction to the Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007

The Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007 require a connection to an instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. These add-ins cannot be used with SQL Server 2000 Analysis Services, because it requires the algorithms and other data mining services provided in SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. |
1.1 Installation Requirements
- SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition
- SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 1 (SP1)
- SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition Service Pack 2 (SP2)
- SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition SP2, with the cumulative hotfix package (build 3152) installed. For more information about this hotfix, see the Knowledge Base article,

Disk Space Requirements
During installation, you can select the add-ins to install, including an Excel worksheet containing sample data that might be useful in constructing different types of data mining models.
The following table describes the disk space required to install the Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007:

System Requirements
Your computer must meet the following requirements to successfully install the add-ins.
- Supported Operating Systems: Windows 2000 Service Pack 4; Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1; Windows Vista; Windows XP Service Pack 2.
- The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
- 40 MB of available hard disk space.
- Microsoft Office Excel 2007, with .NET Programmability Support, in any of the following editions:
- Microsoft Office Professional 2007
- Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007
- Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007
- Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007
- Microsoft Office Professional 2007
- Visio Professional 2007

1.2 Uninstalling or Modifying the Add-ins
- In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.
- Select Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007.
- Click Remove.
After installation, you can change the installed options, to add or remove add-ins. The Table Analysis Tools for Excel are installed by default, but you can add the Data Mining Client for Excel, or the Data Mining Templates for Visio.
- In Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs.
- Select Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007.
- Select the add-ins you want to add or modify, and click Next.
1.2 Additional Configuration
The first time that you open one of the Data Mining Add-Ins for Office 2007, the Getting Started utility opens and guides you through the process of configuring the add-in to connect to an instance of SQL Server Analysis Services. The utility also assists you in downloading an evaluation version of SQL Server 2005 if you do not have access to an existing instance.
If the utility does not start automatically, you can run it by doing the following:
- Click Start, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 DM Add-ins, and then select Getting Started.
If you already have access to an existing instance of SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services, you can configure the server to allow data mining by using the Server Configuration Utility. This utility is available as part of configuration when you run Getting Started, but you can also start it at any time by doing the following:
- Click Start, point to Microsoft SQL Server 2005 DM Add-ins, and then select Server Configuration Utility.
